The Stanford Festival Weekend 2018

This year’s Stanford Weekend will be held in London from November 30th to December 2nd.
There will be a performance of Stanford’s last opera, The Travelling Companion, presented by the New Sussex Opera Company at the Cadogan Hall on Friday November 30th at 7.30 pm. Stanford scholar and biographer Professor Jeremy Dibble of Durham University will give a pre-opera talk at 6.45pm.
A Symposium on Stanford and Parry’s music presented jointly by The Stanford Society and The University of Durham Music Department will be held on Saturday December 1st at Imperial College from 9.00am to 6.00pm. This will include presentations by Stanford and Parry scholars including Professor Dibble, Dr. Paul Rodmell of Birmingham University and Lewis Foreman. There will be recitals to include Stanford and Parry’s songs and music for violin and piano, and a visit to the Library of the Royal College of Music to see their collection of Stanford and Parry manuscript scores.
On the evening of December 1st there will be a reception and dinner at the Oxford and Cambridge Club on Pall Mall with an after dinner talk by Professor Dibble on the relationship between Stanford and Parry.
Throughout the Weekend there will be services in Westminster Abbey featuring the Music of Stanford and Parry (subject to service needs).
Booking for the Symposium and Dinner will open on July 1st for Stanford Society members and on August 1st for non-members. Pricing for these events will be announced by July 1st.
