Hyperion Records is releasing a new CD of Stanford first recordings on August 2nd, 2019. (CDA 68283) The Ulster Orchestra is conducted by Howard Shelly in recordings of A Song of Agincourt, Fairy Day, Solemn March and Heroic Epilogue (Stanford’s orchestration of the second and third movements of his Second Organ Sonata).
The CD also includes A Welcome Overture and the Overture in the style of a Tragedy. Stanford Society President, Jeremy Dibble advised on the music and has written the booklet notes. This is a very welcome release from Hyperion and fills some major gaps in recordings of Stanford’s music.
